Your French adventure begins in Bernay, a charming Normandy market town filled with medieval timbered houses, narrow lanes, and riverside cafés. It’s the perfect gentle introduction to France: relaxed, picturesque, and full of character. Normandy’s rolling countryside sets the tone for the scenic days ahead.
Set on the banks of the River Vienne, Chinon is one of the Loire Valley’s most atmospheric towns. Its hilltop fortress watches over a maze of cobbled streets, wine caves, and sun-drenched terraces. Your two-night stay gives you time to explore the Loire’s iconic châteaux — Azay-le-Rideau, Villandry, Ussé — or simply enjoy a relaxed loop ride through vineyards and river valleys. This is France at its most romantic.
Heading south, the landscape shifts into the green heart of the Limousin. Limoges is known for its world-famous porcelain, elegant boulevards, and peaceful riverside gardens. It’s a calm, welcoming city that makes an ideal overnight stop before the dramatic scenery of the Massif Central.
Perched high on a volcanic plateau, Saint-Flour is one of the most striking towns in the Auvergne. The ride into this region is a highlight in itself: sweeping views, extinct volcanoes, and quiet mountain roads. The town’s medieval upper city offers dramatic architecture and hearty regional cuisine.
A night in Lyon brings you to the crossroads of French culture and cuisine. Known as the gastronomic capital of France, Lyon blends Renaissance old-town charm with riverside elegance. It’s the perfect place to enjoy an evening meal and soak up the atmosphere before heading north into Burgundy.
Dijon is a city of grand squares, medieval streets, and the unmistakable flavours of Burgundy. From mustard to wine to architecture, everything here feels rich and refined. It’s a beautiful overnight stop with plenty to explore on foot after a day of relaxed riding.
Nestled beside a sparkling alpine lake, Gérardmer is your base for two nights in the Vosges Mountains. This region is a rider’s dream: smooth forest roads, panoramic viewpoints, and the famous Route des Crêtes. Whether you want a full day’s loop or a gentle lakeside wander, Gérardmer offers space to breathe and explore.
Your journey continues to Nancy, home to the UNESCO-listed Place Stanislas — one of Europe’s most beautiful squares. The city blends Belle Époque architecture with leafy boulevards and a relaxed evening atmosphere. It’s a graceful stop before the final stretch north.
In the heart of Champagne, Reims offers grand cathedrals, historic cellars, and a celebratory feel. Whether you choose a Champagne tasting or a quiet evening stroll, this is a fitting finale to your French adventure before the final ride back to Calais.
After twelve days of gentle adventure, great food, and unforgettable landscapes, you’ll return home with new confidence, new friends, and a deeper love for France’s quieter corners.
